I got the SWL fever when I was about 12 or 13 years old. My father was cleaning out the attic and had a Hallicrafters S-38 B he was going to toss out. I asked if I could have it and he handed it to me and from then on I was hooked.I use to sit and listen to it every night.I used that until I was 17 years old and my first pay check I received,I went to the local Lafayette radio store ,there they had a used Hallicrafters S-108 shortwave receiver, and I bought it I had used that until I saw an add in a Radio Shack flyer with an add for the DX -160 SWL receiver I went down and bought one.I thought it was the best radio I had. A friend of mine had gotten one around the same time, but never got hooked,he gave me his DX-160 about 5 years ago.But yes,you can't beat the Icom Amateur radio for SWL'ing,I use my Icom 718 for that when I am not on the airwaves

My SWL receivers currently are a Yaesu FRG 7700 and an Icom R 70. My previous receivers included a Phillips 2262 dual wave radio, Realistic DX 160 and the infamous Froggy FRG7. I also still have a Panasonic R 3000 but it sits rather forlornly on top of a bookshelf unused.
